Our Work in Action: The Brook 589 Fulton Street

Check out the largest continuous concrete pour that’s been done in New York City at Suffolk New York’s The Brook project. Upon completion, this project will be a 600,000 square foot, 52-story multi-family residential building with an affordable component.

Our Work in Action: Moorings Park at Grey Oaks

The Moorings Park at Grey Oaks project, which included a 64-bed assisted living and dementia building, a 7,208 square-foot Center for Healthy Living, and a 13,422 square-foot clubhouse, entered the preconstruction phase during the ramp-up of a now very active market. Based on our knowledge of the local market, Suffolk understood that concrete could pose a budget challenge.

Our team proposed a structural change from concrete to steel, performed an analysis to confirm our assumptions, and confirmed that steel was a more cost-effective solution. Suffolk proposed the change to the owner and design team, which they accepted and incorporated into the drawings with no impact to the progression of the project’s design.

Our Work in Action: Gillette Stadium North End Zone Expansion

Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, transformed its north end zone of the stadium to allow for additional amenities, function spaces, and more – providing an overall maximized experience for stadium-goers.

Our Work in Action: Boston Hope

Boston Hope was a field hospital constructed in less than a week in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the collaboration between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the City of Boston, Partners Healthcare, and Suffolk, a 1,000-bed hospital was created inside the Boston Convention Center to treat patients recovering from COVID-19, as well as the unsheltered population. Once completed, the field hospital housed two 500-room patient sections and associated nurse’s stations, six crash rooms (for patients who needed sudden intubation and ventilation), an X-ray room, a mental health/therapeutic room and a physical rehabilitation area.

It was only through incredible teamwork that this project was possible. Suffolk’s unique and long-standing relationship with Partners Healthcare had familiarized our team with the intricate challenges of constructing healthcare spaces. We also worked closely with the facilities team at the Boston Convention Center to ensure the smoothest assembly once inside.

Our Work in Action: Encore Boston Harbor

As part of Suffolk’s commitment to diversity and inclusion on our jobsites, we hosted regular tradeswomen events for all 489 female construction workers on site. This program was designed to create a supportive, safe, strong, and confident environment for all female workers in the industry—particularly on the Suffolk project site. The women in attendance had the opportunity to share their personal experiences of working in the construction industry. The event generated overwhelmingly positive feedback and we’ve continued to implement it on other projects.
