Suffolk was selected to oversee the full transformation of the university鈥檚 original dining hub into a unified culinary journey.
This involved relocating the kitchen to the forefront, enabling students to immerse themselves in both the enjoyment and preparation of meals. Additionally, multiple interactive food display platforms were integrated throughout 64 Degrees, enhancing the dining experience.
This project also included a caf茅 and market, which features Amazon鈥檚 Just Walk Out technology. Students, faculty, and staff enter the store using the Triton2Go app at the entry gate. The technology tracks the items a shopper takes from or returns to shelves and creates a virtual shopping session.
To meet the compressed schedule, extensive pre-planning and coordination of all long-lead items was essential. Our team continuously monitored progress against the construction schedule and due to added scope worked every Saturday to turn over the project to UC San Diego on time.
Due to the central campus location of this project, Suffolk had extremely limited laydown areas requiring extensive logistics planning to work on the active campus. The project team and trade partners planned for just in time material deliveries as well as respected campus required work hours. We enhanced our safety protocols around the site to eliminate any potential safety concerns for the students, faculty, staff and public.
