Project A1 - Virginia

Project Overview

Suffolk is completing two tenant fit-outs of a data center in Manassas, Virginia.

The fit-outs will occur in build-to-suite core and shell buildings constructed by a third-party developer and general contractor. One building is 40 megawatts (MW) and the other is 32 MW, for a total campus MW of 72 MW. The projects will consist of 8-10 phases of construction, each staggered to provide optimal turnover to the client for operations. Each phase of the data hall will include two fully redundant electrical rooms complete with switchgear and Power Distribution switchboards, cooled with in-room Energy Recovery Ventilators and Split Air Conditioning Systems. Four primary air handling units will be provided with each phase turnover to cool the server racks. Each data hall will have hot aisle containment installed, which acts as the backbone for ductwork, sprinkler, and electrical distribution throughout. There are primary exhaust shafts throughout the building, allowing hot air to be extracted from the facility via roof-top exhaust fans. Two floors of highly secure office space, with badged entry and in-wall security mesh, will support facility and security operations within the data center. The team will also complete substantial exterior work to support the more than 20 2.5 MW generators that power the electrical rooms and a large steel catwalk structure required to access the generators.
